I didn't have high hopes for Tawny. Horses are complicated things, so my expectiations were low. He does only work on smooth, flat surface. Trotting on carpet is not impossible, but it does result in a few falls. You do also need a suitable rider - a Barbie with jointed legs (I think ours came with the - hideous - cat pooper scoop game).
But overall Tawny is much loved and has been a huge hit with my six year old. I would say Tawny is more suited to a caring type of child: one who helps and assists rather than expects a real mini horse and is frustrated with the stiff-legged rocky action of this one.
So I would recommend it - with some reservations - and will be buying another one this Christmas for my younger daughter.

My 6 year old daughter got this for christmas and I think it has been used for a total of 20 mins. Most of which were two minute examples of how it workes to friends and family. It only works on flat surface, so if you have wood flooring your ok, but if like us everyroom except the bathroom and kitchen have carpet it's not very good. She doesn't have the right doll to sit on it which doesn't help either. It looks very impressive when it is walking its a bit like something out of Small Soldiers it's quiet freaky. But all in all a bit of a waste.
