Informative - and a refreshing change! February 16, 2005 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
If you're looking for a smoothie book packed with information on plant and fruit properties, common health concerns with suggested smothie remedies, [including which ingredients to avoid], and a wide range of recipes then this is the book for you! It makes a refreshing change to the run of the mill 'fruit and yoghurt / ice-cream' book with recipes for herb smoothies, vegetable smoothies, fruit smoothies, dairy and dairy alternatives, hot, cold and frozen smoothies... well worth buying - and you're body will love you for it!!
A science project, not a recipe book. August 3, 2004 55 out of 56 found this review helpful
If you are looking for a book you can pick up and make a quick smoothie this is the wrong book. It's more a science project than a recipe book, information overload. This book was written for the American market, some of the ingredients are difficult if not impossible to find in the UK, you'd spend a long time searching for alternatives. This book was in my possession for only a short time only, I returned it asap. I have no doubt that the information is accurate and I'm sure that the author spent a great deal of time researching her subject. If, like me, all you want is a book with ideas to make delicious healthy smoothies, this is not that book.

If you are looking for a book that you can just pick up and make a quick smoothie, this is not the book you want. More a science project than a recipe book, information overload. This book was in my possession for a brief time only, I sent it back asap. It was written for the American market, some of the ingredients in this book aren't available easily here in the UK, you'd spend a long time looking for alternatives. The idea behind my buying this book was to be able to make tasty smoothies, this book could seriously put you off altogether.
Best of it's kind February 27, 2004 35 out of 35 found this review helpful
This is the only smoothies book that I have found that doesn't just bang on about how to make nice fruit juices with yoghurt and ice-cream (though there are some such recipies), but also gives a large range of ideas for using vegetables and even herbs in smoothies aswell. The focus of the book is health-improvement, and it contains a comprehensive list of ailments and the specific ingredients that can help each one, as well as advice on what to avoid. For each ailment, it then recommends a selection of smoothies from the recipes section which are particularly helpful for that condition. There is also well-laid out information on the benefits of each fruit, vegetable and herb. The only thing you need to be prepared for is that many of the smoothies include juice as one of the ingredients, and so the book will be far more usable if you have a juicer as well as a blender.
