5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for a working couple   January 11, 2007
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

This is the best healthy eating book I've found that caters for couples and doesn't take up too much time when you get home from work. The recipes are clear and easy to follow. The ingredients are really simple (I usually have them in my kitchen) and you can get them from your local supermarket (unlike other books I've tried, which require hunting out health food stores!).
I've really enjoyed the meals I've made using this book and it doesn't feel like I'm on a diet, as it's full of flavour. The only thing I'd note is that the recipes use American measurements, but that hasn't stopped me yet!

3 out of 5 stars A warning to British readers.   December 31, 2005

This book is very American in content. Ingredients, and measurements are all American so you may find it difficult to do some of the recipes in England. Also there are very few pictures, just line drawings. I don't know about you, but I only ever cook the recipes that have photos of what I'm making! Bought this book about a year ago and I do loads of cooking from books, but I've never made anything from this book for the above reasons.

5 out of 5 stars amazingly simple and delicious   April 2, 2003

I have purchased quite a few cookbooks recently, but this is the one I always come back to. The recipes never fail and always come out tasting wonderful. I love how the nutritional value is listed at the end of each recipe. Ms. Price also provides menu ideas and serving suggestions for most recipes. There are also pages dedicated to enriching your cooking know-how. I particularly like the full page spreads on such topics as home made pizza crust and how to make an easy broth. The recipes also do not have an exhaustive list of ingredients, nor are the exotic items you might not already have. I would highly suggest this book for anyone cooking for just one, or two, or even more, the recipes can easily be doubled!

5 out of 5 stars Eat Well, Lose Weight!   June 24, 1999

When will Ms. Price come out with her next book! This one is such a terrific first; its simple, inventive, and careful recipes are a delight, and the food is really delicious. The added benefit of low-fat recipes and heart-friendly cooking make it must for both the uninitiated and experienced cook. I recommend it especially to single men who have had no experience cooking real food for themselves. I usually burn food and produce an inedible mess; with this book I've started cooking great meals for myself (and a friend or two). If you use recipes in this book, you'll create great, healthful food that's unfussy, very filling, and easy to prepare. Hat's off to Frances Price for her classic cookbook for singles.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent practical cookbook   March 7, 1999

Trying to make a change to a healthy diet but don't need to cook for the tribe? This is the cookbook for you. Most recipes are simple: the most exotic ingredient I've encountered so far is walnut oil. This cookbook and Don Mauer's Lean & Lovin' It (less simple and you have to scale the servings down) are two of my favorites for tasty day-to-day low fat meals. If you're cooking to lose weight, but are trying to escape the diet mentality, do yourself a favor and start with this cookbook.
