4 out of 5 stars The queen of motivation   April 18, 2007

Without a doubt the best motivator I know. Usually the trainer is the worst part of any exercise video - too much whooping and fake dialogue. Susan is passionate and engaging and speaks not just to skinny thighed sixteen year olds, but to real people who want to get fitter.

The routine is excellent and works if you're super fit of if you're starting from scratch (most fitness dvds assume a certain level of fitness which can be daunting if you have none) - that's because SP shows how everything can be modified so that you get the workout your body needs.

Of course, like all pre-recorded classes it can get boring after a while and the fact that this is largely a 'step' class adds to that fact. But for getting motivated, getting sweaty and getting fit, you'd have to go a long way to beat this.

4 out of 5 stars Leotard heaven   November 6, 2005

If you're after a trip back to the heady days of the leotard this is the dvd for you. With an eclectic mix of acolytes ranging from Driving Miss Daisy to What's Eating Gilbert Grape, this dvd proves exceedingly enjoyable. Powter orates like an evangelical minister and she has certainly shown me the light.

The workout is longer than many others so gives you a good sweaty session. In isolation, however, this dvd is limited as it is basically a step aerobics workout of the old skool so I suggest you mix and match with other exercise programmes. I rotate it with some Tae Bo, Joanna Hall, Rosemary Conley and Karen Voight and have certainly seen the benefits.

5 out of 5 stars Best motivator to get started and keep going   March 10, 2005

The positive reviews encouraged me to purchase this DVD, and I agree it's a great routine. I'm not terribly out of shape, but not at the level of fitness I'd like either. Susan's system of modification makes sure I'm able to keep increasing my level of fitness as I improve.

I really like the interval training, as it gives me a more interesting way of using light weights. With my husband's system of weight training I often felt sore and on the verge of tendonitis the day after a workout. With Susan's sytem I don't feel any tendonitis, am gaining strength, and sticking to my routine. Plus my daughter likes to work out with me, and wants to be strong, too. So she grabs my 2 kilo weights, leaving me with the 1.25 kilo weights!

The best part is that having the DVD's gets me motivated to exercise, since it's fun. Saves money compared to joining a gym, travelling, and paying for aerobics classes, too. I'm glad I bought this DVD, and am already thinking of trying some more rigorous workouts.

5 out of 5 stars Just do it   December 13, 2003

Buy this, buy a step (Argos has them) and never look back. Susan Powter is wonderful; I now own the three DVDs of hers available on Amazon and I have acquired muscles (not the horrid bulky kind, the lean, strong & healthy sort) - if you knew me, you'd know how amazing that is. I work out a lot and have for a while, but these are the only programmes that have made a really visible difference to my body, and so quickly. As a bonus, she also makes exercising fun, and you feel terrific after every session.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for all over fitness   October 23, 2003

Excellent video which I have had for about 8 or more years. It is one of three of Susan Powters fitness videos I own and are the only ones I use over and over. Excellent all over fitness. Slow pace but very effective. It won't be long before you notice a difference in the lean muscle tone of your body if you use these for your fitness.
